Well.

Just tonight, I started having major problems with my scanner. First, whenever I tried to scan, I got this error message:

"Cannot scan for these reasons: - The original may not be set correctly - The protective sheet may be in place - The lamp may not be warmed up (needs a few minutes for adjusting lamp on low temp).

Scanner driver will be closed Code: 2,178,0"

Well, seeing that error message over and over got old fast, so I tried reinstalling the drivers and CanoScan Toolbox. After doing that, things went from bad to worse - now, it seems it can't even recognize the scanner at all. Pressing the scan button, instead of giving me an error message, does nothing. And when I open the CanoScan Toolbox and try to set the scanner, I get a big empty list - seems like it can't find the scanner.

Does anyone know what could be wrong? I'm using a CanoScan 4200F. It's kind of a problem because I do all my lineart on paper and I can't really get any work down without a working scanner. :(

Is this using a PC or Mac? Could be that some Windows Update that screwed things up, changing the driver association for that piece of hardware. You might check your Add/Remove programs (with Show Updates) listing to see if Windows updated on the day, or around the day, in question.
