multiple columns in select box

Hi, i'm populating a select box with multiple columns retrieved from a database. Currently i'm merely seperating them using a "|" symbol but this looks quite ugly as none of options correctly align. I was wondering if there was a css solution for doing this?

About all you can do is set the text to a monospaced font.
