About "slices"

Okay..I made my web page in Photoshop and plan to cut it into "slices" before I bring it into DreamWeaver.

However the question popped into my mind that once it is open in DreamWeaver, can I still make more slices, such as for my links?

lol you could just go back into photoshop and carve your image up some more, have a good time butcher it as much as you like.

But seriously I want to have as few slices made in Photoshop as possible..just want the page to load a bit quicker....than use DreamWeavers slice tool for my links.

Oh your using dreamweaver to slice it eh... I have never tried that I always just did all my images in photoshop or use text link nav bar not graphical.

Well..actually, I only plan on using Photoshop to slice up my web page into about three pieces..THEN when I open it in DreamWeaver, I plan to use the slice tools on my links since the text links are part of the web page background...sort of an experiment so to speak.

I slice my images in Photoshop, then export the slices only. I hand code the html.

I was going to add something to the thread of value... but in reading it I am now just confused with an ice cream headache! There is WAY to much slicing going on.!

Well..Originally I was just going to do the "Save for the Web" thing in photoshop, without the slices..then open it in DreamWeaver and make my "Hotspots" for my links but I soon found I couldn't do that.. so I went back into Photoshop, cut my image into three pieces then when I exported them intO DreamWeaver..I could finlaly use my Hotspot tool..

Yes, I could have done it in ImageReady as well but I want to see what technique works better for me..since all I do not intend on typing anything on my page in DreamWeaver, I just created all the text and so forth in Photoshop and I plan to do the same when I create pages with my artwork on it..this way no one can take my images and it cuts down on the images I have to upload too.

I actually prefer paint shop pro 7 to photo shop. Is that weird?

do you have a link to your site?

i'm curious what all this "slicing" is about. my guess is that you are making your webpage as one entire image, but to help that image load faster, you are "cutting" up the picture so that multiple smaller images load at once

Well, right now I am just developing my site so it is not uploaded..and Yes, slicing is a technique wheras I use Photoshop to cut my page into a few pieces...about three..

However you are correct that my intent is to have my pages as one image..this, in my odd logic, will reduce the number of images I have to actually upload and reduces the chances of people just helping themselves to the graphics I made.

Is it possible to use a slice or layer in which to target media when a link is clicked?

In other words, someone clicks on a link and instead of a new page loading..the intended "media" shows up in the selected slice or layer.
