Hi!

It's been two years since I've last used the older VSS version for our development(since my current company didn't buy one). I'm pretty ok with all the things with the older version.

Right now with my new company, I've tried to convince them to make use of VSS. The current version is VSS 2005 right? But I'm not quite sure how good it is compared to its predecessor.

And I came across this link http://www.highprogrammer.com/alan/windev/sourcesafe.html
Which stated a lot of problems with regards using VSS 2005.

Do any of you guys have tried VSS 2005 on their development? Any feedback please.

Thanks.

I've never used VSS, but I've read plenty of articles that basically said it was plagued with problems; slow, errors, etc.

I use Subversion with the TortoiseSVN client and I really like it. It isn't integrated into the Visual Studio IDE like VSS which might freak some close-minded people, but it really doesn't need to be. Take a look. BTW, it is free which is significantly different than the $1K-2K licenses for VSS.

I was hoping for a windows software because my company doesn't have any extra machine for other OS like Linux and most of all human resource hehehehe, but thanks for the Subversion tip though.

Hi,
been using SourceSafe 2005 for a while now. Haven't had any problems appart from human error (developers not checking in code).

Subversion works natively in basically every common OS not just linux. I use it with WinXP.
