Format for video clips on website

Is it possible to change a movie format from .mov or .wmv to .mpg? Also, is there anything that needs to be done to these movie clips to make them load faster?

I recently took over the maintenance of a website that has many video clips that download and play in windows media player. They just sent me more to add, but a couple clips are .mov and one is .wmv. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are tons of free converters out there. Do a google search for "mov to mpg converter", or something like that. There are lots of them that will convert any format to any format. They work great.
