Is is possible to include SSI in templates?

Suppose I have a template page (.dwt) and I want to include the top navigational bar in it which is a SSI, cause I will add new links in it in the future can/should I do it, is it advisable or is there any other easier method?

Usually the DWT would help with you adding the links. You can use SSI and you might need to use virtual links in the SSI file name but I would either use SSI or a DWT
