Well... you have a couple of issues.
First of all wav files do work.... however they have limits, which would be size.
Basicly take any standard audio format and it should work without a problem. wav, mp3, midi are used most often.
In Dreamweaver MX choose Insert->Media->Plugin Then pick your file to play.
Use the Properties inpector to make the player larger or smaller.
