Hello All -

I don't if this question is relevant for this forum or not...but! Or if I could be pointed in a direction to find the information.

Does anyone have any idea what it costs to get a domain name now. I have a client who paid $700 for the name they keep on a yearly basis, and they want to move their pages to another ISP, and still keep the name. Was $700 too much? Does the hosting services provide this service or should the designer or client be responsible?

In the past when I've worked on sites all this had been previously set up, and I would just FTP the files to the site.

Thanks for any info.

$700 sounds ridiculous to me UNLESS we are taking about buying name out (and even then it should be a one-time transaction for such amount, the renewal should be modestly priced).

If I want to buy amazon.com domain name I might be looking for couple of billion to spend :)

Yes, $700 must either a) be a buyout, as Daria suggested, or b) be the price including hosting.

I register all my domains for $8.95 at http://www.godaddy.com

Thanks for all the comments.

I believe the other party would prefer to remain incognito :) in regards to details. We will change things and work out a more, shall we say thrifty solution.

Thanks!
