i'm good at developing but not so good at design...but had a stab at it on this site.

Your site loads extremely slow. Maybe you are located far away.

Anyways, i feel it has a FrontPage look to it. It just needs to be more cohesive. I'm glad to see you are using css for the layout.

- you should make all of the boxes on the left the same width
- add another color in there.. i like the blues you currently have though
- use a header for each box that distunguishes itself from the box content. they all just blend in with what is below them
- try and push everything together or position it differently. the boxes just look uncomfortable around eachother

Seems like you have the right idea, you just need a little extra to get it looking 'right'.

site is now looking a lot better, put it in a centered - 2 column with header and footer- layout.

Any comments appreciated.....HELP ME TAKE THIS FORWARD (and i'll review yours in turn)

You "about us", "under the hammer" and "submit a piece" links (without hover) need much higher contrast from their background. The "submit a piece" link is also a Javascript-based one. The main image at the top would probably benefit from a bit more contrast too.

what's wrong with javascript based links ?

96% of users have javascript enabled.....screw the other 4%
