How to add a blog to a Website ?

Hello !
How can I add a blog to a website? I have no prior experience with blogging. But a quick Goodle search revealed "blogger.com" and "Wordpress" . Appears to me that Wordpress needs to be installed in some directory of the Server . But can I invoke it from one of the pages of my website , example.(myweb...page.com/blog..page)

Is this how is supposed to be done ?

it you download blogging engine and install it in your root dir in a folder called /blog/ just access it via http://www.yourdomain.com/blog/
