One of my other computers has the odd compulsion to crash at any point and time.

I replaced the Floppy drive because the original was several years old and I thought that could be the problem...then I replaced the wall outlet the Computer plugs into (it needed it anyways) and I don't think it is the HD since whenever I defrag it, no bad sectors appear and the drive motor stiill seems to function.

I was thinking it is the onboard battery but since the time and all is kept flawlessly..that can't be it. I am running out of options as the components seem to be okay...so does anyone have an idea of what could be happening?

What OS are you running? Windows 98 and any previous releases have that tendancy to crash alot. I'm not exactally sure why but it just does. Micro$oft seemed to have fixed it in newer versions such as Windows 2000 and above. I'm currently running Win98 and it crashes on a regular basis. I can now almost tell when it's about to crash. Lol... :p

Well..currently I am running Windows 98 Second Edition. I do a frequent System File Check and everything seems okay..I did not find any conflicts with components or anything.

I am hesitant to go to Windows 2000 because (A) I do not wish to spend hour reconfiguring my drives in case they do not work and (B) I have heard about the numerous glitches and defects which require an equal amount of visits to Microsofts site to get patches to fix their problems

I also uninstalled my RealPlayer since it seemed to recently start creating problems....so I just have to wait and see I guess.

Well I don't work for Micro$oft so I can't tell you exactally whats wrong. If I did work for Micro$oft I probably wouldn't tell you anyway since they like to keep all their little glitches under wraps and make you think your doing something wrong. Lol... :D So I'm not exactally sure what could be wrong but have you thought at all about upgrading to XP? I have XP running on my other computer and I was surprised that the error amount went down from what it was for 98! It works pretty good with what I've done with it sofar.

Yeah..I have thought occasionally about upgrading but I also am none too eager to either upgrade and reconfigure everything or format my HD, install XP then reinstall all my components only to find that none of them are compatible...not to mention my programs...it can happen.

I am not really in the mood to buy new components. I thought about getting Linux or something but then again I would run into the same afore mentioned problems...a total bummer.
Thanks for the replies, I didn't know that Windows 98 had such a affinity for crashing :D
