embedd htacess???

how do you integrade a login box for htacess so this way they dont have to click on a link to get into the restricted section? there has to be a way that would make this possible. I have seen it before, if not then how would i create a PHP logon?

I would recommend using a server side language for this because that way if you want to add on to it in the future like add a forum or some other posting tool etc etc you are already half way done, but thats just my thoughs.
