I have video on a DVD. I want to be able to extract clips from it. Not stills but actual moving clips of a certain length of time, as I am waching it. Any ideas on the best type of software to use? I am using Windows XP and would like either open source or not too expensive.

Thanks!

Like a screen capturing software? Or just rip the whole DVD and then use iMovie (Mac) or Windows Movie Maker (Windows) to slice it up.

Not screen capture, as I want to extract a portion of the actual video. I don't want stills. so, if I am watching it, I can mark a certain time frame, beginning and end, and cut it and paste it into another video I am creating.

Screen capture software doesn't just do stills, you can record.

But I would think that with using the screen capture you would lose some of the clarity of the original video. I don;t want to have to record it again, just copy portions into another one.

Why not just use a DVD Ripper software. There quite a few out there that would rip to different formats. Google search for DVD rippers.

I use DVD Shrink to backup my DVD's. It's pretty good.

I'm not looking to just copy it. I'm looking to edit it, to pull sections out and combine them in another video. I'll just look at some editing software and see what's available. Thanks.

Yes...if you rip the video from the DVD, the ripping software will save the video in a format (avi, DV)that you can import into your editing software (ie Final Cut, Premiere, MovieMaker, etc).

Yes, thank you. I know that. I was looking for information on editing it.
