Somebody killed the HP vs Dell thread! I just had a tech support story that I had to tell and I went looking for it and now it's GONE! Even worse... my FIRST POST was in there! Waaahhhh!!!:( That thread was the reason that I joined here!

It's not dead, it just should be. You only need to search better. I really shouldn't tell you this, but the default forum view only shows threads posted to in the last 30 days(I think). Just change it to look for older stuff. I'm leaving work now and won't be home for several hours. Didn't want you to think I was ignoring you if you posted back to me. Warning, if you revive that thread I will have to tell you about the work I had to do to my daughters computer yesterday. It's an HP and it won't be pretty!

It was a dumb thread when it was started. I can't believe people still want it to be around.

Just one point: Dells are now sold at Wal-Mart... this is never a good sign

No, it's NOT a good sign- I feel sorry for someone dumb enough to buy a Dell from there. Dell+WalMart=Many computers thrown in to the garbage within a month of being purchased.
But PLEASE talk about that in the Dell vs HP thread Itself! (I purposefully capitalized the I in Itself.)

Dell+WalMart=Many computers thrown in to the garbage within a month of being purchased. Why so? A Dell is a Dell no matter where it's purchased. Why is buying a Dell at WalMart different than buying one elsewhere?

Its just the stigma attached to products at wal-mart

Yes. I bought my Roadmaster bicycle (Roadmaster is made by Pacific Cycle Company now that the actual Roadmaster company went out of business) at Wal-Mart because Roadmasters are only sold at Wal-Mart now. However, a few weeks ago I bought a Schwinn at Toys-R-Us, and Schwinn is also made by Pacific Cycle Company, and I notice that everything on the bike is adjusted well completely perfectly, but the bikes at Wal-Mart today don't have things adjusted well, and the chains don't seem as well lubricated as the bikes from Toys-R-Us. Hey, the Roadmaster I bought at Wal-Mart only lasted four years; from 2003 to 2007. It still MOVES, but that's the best I can say.
Although we bought a Yard Machines push lawnmower there several years ago and it's been the best push mower in terms of reliability that I've ever seen. Hey, my friend and his dad have been through three lawnmowers in the past two years! (Home Depot issue) That's the ONE thing that's good at Wal-Mart. Otherwise it's all made cheaper, so the quality is worse as well.

It seems that if you try to sell a square at wal-mart they will cut so many corners it will eventually become a circle.

Hmmm... that's a great... um... analogy? No, it's not an analogy.... What is it?
Seriously, the correct word for what that is is going to bother me all day.:(

I agree. I bought an Acer laptop there because MS was paying lots of money to get everyone to switch to Vista (I immediately formatted the HD and loaded Linux.) It runs perfectly fine. Unless it's specifically changed for a certain merchandiser (which a few do), a brand name is a brand name. It's ludicrous to pass up a good deal at a place like WalMart just because of who it is. They have the power (for now) to create lower prices so why not go for it?

I believe the dells wal-mart does sell are made specifically for wal-mart. I honestly count vouch for the quality one way or the other because I have never bought one from wal-mart. Solely from Wal-Mart's reputation though, I know it is not a good idea to make large investments in anything they sell.
Does it say that they are specifically for WalMart? I know the Acer hasn't been changed. Something to keep in mind, though. Dell is in trouble and is trying all types of new techniques to increase sales. However, they are not going to make inferior products just to move them; that would spell their death for sure.
It seems like WalMart has received some sort of incentive from MS to start taking all of these other computer systems so as to move Vista because many people would need to buy a new system to handle it. Oh well, we take the deals where we can get them.

I've made a whole new topic about Dells at Wal-Mart.

Oh, I guess that this is called "splitting" the thread. Yes, I've been here for three months but I still don't know everything. :)

Oh, and somebody can close this thread. It has no use now that I split it.
