1and1, gatorhost, godaddy. And I was just about to register a VERY good domain name. What the heck... Is this possible? There is no way this is possible! This must be some freak thing or am about to be totally screwed over.

I'd get on the phone with tech support ...

Either the DNS for your node went down and part of the internet has gone down.

if you know an IP address of one of yhe sites, eg.. type in http://72.14.253.99 for google and if google shows up under the IP address and not under it s name, you can bet yo ass its a Flakey DNS ont your ISP's network.

I had problems with my ISP, trying to get through their thick skulls that I have already dignosed the problem before hand yet they always insited on they new better... But... I eventually showed them what I was experiencing by simple demonsteration of above method to determine if Domain Name Servers were doing their job... resolving names, if your DNS stops AND your IP address method stops, then your issue is loss of network from the ISP network, means an administration server has gone down and the system either is refusing you any connection because that adminstration server had failed over and the backup failed to come up or the cable is broken or a lose connection in the network or it could be as simple as some nice hoodie has bombed the MUX and its just a mess of burnt out cables...

It could be any number of reasons, if it lasts more than an hour, contact your ISP tech helpdesk and ask for a refund of loss of service for the period you have no and no continued service will get the job done quicker than moaning about loss of service.
