Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Dreamweaver MX question...
I just got Dreamweaver MX and I want to make a page of pictures (just a normal page with a picture followed by a bit of text followed by another pic and text) and have a "comments" section at the bottom where anyone that visits my site can just post a comment without 'becoming a member' or anything like that. Also, the comments should just add after each other so that the newest one follows the previous one. I do however want them to have to put their name in a name field, but it won't require a password or anything.
Keep in mind that my website is going to be hosted off a .Mac account and I don't know if I have all the privilages that I would have if were hosting it off my computer.
This is how I would like it to look:
Name: Afro_Puff (xx:xx) the x's would be the time they added their comment:
Comment: Dude those pics are NUTS!!! etc, etc.
PS. If this should be in some other category please let me know and/or move it.
Take a look at http://forums.webdeveloper.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10856&highlight=guestbook for a PHP solution. Note that it doesn't force uses to enter a name, but that could be very easily added.
That is EXACTLY what I am looking for...
Here is the thing, I know nothing about HTML or PHP and I am using my .Mac account as a webserver. I am not sure if it supports PHP, although I am sure (and I sure hope) that it does.
Where should I put this file that they are talking about and will it be easy to just add it to the bottom of a normal text/graphics webpage?
Crap, turns out that that won't work. Check this article:
http://discuss.mac.com/webx?13@16.4nKUai4ydYW.8@.3bba38cc/0
Or to abstract from it:
Regarding SSI, or any other form of server-side processing (CGI, perl, PHP, MySQL, etc.), iDisk does not support such functionality.
However, you are welcome to include any client-side functionality that can accomplish these goals, including JavaScript, Java, CSS, Flash, etc.
So is there a Javascript, Jave, CSS, Flash or etc. way of doing what I want to do?

Well.
I have used Dreamweaver MX since it came out for doing php pages. It is great.
Now that I have that out of my system, and realizing that it in no way answers your question:
To do what you want to do basically means you need a database and a way to communicate with it. PHP, ASP etc do this.
As you have probably ralized, the server on which you host the pages need to support this method of communication. Until you have this, I think you are probably out of luck.
But while you are lamenting this, it sometimes helps to open a bottle of champagne. The pleasent fizziness will tickle your belly and go to your head, and pretty soon you'll be laughing and wondering why you wanted to do all of this silly-ass web stuff anyway!
Hurrah!

I'm glad this was entertaining, although in all seriousness, what I said was true, and furthermore, important.
Specifically, it is important for those people new to the trade to understand, as an old, portly friend of mine once said (I paraphrase),
"Daot, you've got to know when to hold them. You also need to know when to fold them - albeit, needing to know when to walk away AND ... when to run are also good things."
(I paraphrase) Now, I was never sure whether he was talking about laundry or wife-swapping, but I assumed the former. Maybe it was the latter, in which case that's just wrong. But you get my point.
Yes I did find your comments entertaining. The essence of your statements were completely valid. It was the presentation that brought about a "breath of fresh air" in these forums.
