search and 404

i am working on a site but this site is using there own server and not a host so i need to no 2 things;

how do i make a site search for that server?

how do i make custom error pages?

Do you mean an intranet server (on a local network instead of the Internet)? If so, you can still use CGI, etc, as long as the pages are being served by a web server (such as Apache), not being directly accessed over the network. If the files are being directly accessed (through SMB or whatever) you cannot use such facilities.
