Does anyone know how I can save .png images with partial transparencies using paint shop pro 6 or 7. I can use flood fill to create a partial transparency but when I save it, it always blends the colour with white and becomes opaque.

You mean so after you save it it has a partial transparency so the things behind it like a website background will sort of shine through?

Yeah just like that, sort of like an alpha filter but only for parts of the image.

Humm, I struggled with that once myself, but I could not get it to work. I use psp7. It always just made the transparencys white or something like that. I dont think its possible with psp, I have never heard of anyone having done it. I know it can be done in photo shop though.

That's a bit of a downer. Can it be done with any other type of image?
Failing that is there any CSS for a transitional fade in effect from one unknown colour to a specified one, (eg. red), going from left to right.

have you tried file >export > png optimizer? The transparency options are in there

Thats worth trying, good idea.

For a test I made a simple image that had a two colours of partial transparency and then two sections of complete transparency. Then I went on to export > png optimizer and the attached image is what I was confronted with.
Well I'm not entirely sure what alpha transparency is but I assume that it must be similar to the CSS alpha filter. Anyway I saved it and it didn't work. So can anyone with more experience share their wisdom with me please.

I tried it and it worked but I did not put anything behind it, but it was grey which was the background color of my image viewer (I have windows blinds running) which makes me think that it worked.

Oops, I forgot to upload the image before.
Any way I've got to go soon so I'll have a play around with it and see what I can get it to do.
Thanks for the input guys.
