Hello all,
I know nothing about programming so I'm not ever sure if I'm posting in the correct forum. So I apologize if this is the wrong place.

I was curious to know if its possible to cloak a domain name in the address bar.

For example, lets say I own www.mydomain.com and I want to forward it to www.myotherdomain.com, BUT when the viewer is sent to myotherdomain.com the address bar will still show mydomain.com.

If this is possible, can someone give me some advice on how to do it?

Thanks,
Erik

You may find yourself on a phishing list if you do that.

What does that mean?

That's what people do when they want you to think you are on one site (your bank's, for example) and you are really entering all that private information on their site. Not only will you find yourself on a phishing list, you'll also be banned from all the search engines.

Actually, you can do such things without being labeled a "phisher". Search Google and you'll see a lot of pages on how to do this. I'm pretty sure there is a code for this, but the only way I know to do this is to simply make a frame the size of the window, name it what you want, then make all the other pages open in the frame.

thanks chiller,
what keyword(s) would you use to search? Is there a name for this code?

Hmm "HTML set address bar" or something similar might work for a Google search. There are a lot of posts like yours on different forum sites, can probably find what you are looking for from one of them.

Since this is a serious issue, I would like to see those pages you give as reference to your statement. Please don't just give suggestions or list other sites. You need to provide concrete proof from Google or other search engines.

In addition, I believe that many browser will also list the site as a phishing site because it hides the real URL.

affiliate911, why do you want to deceive your visitors in the first place? (Showing one URL while directing the person to another is deception.)

I wouldn't say "deceive", but I guess it could look that way. That word already has a negative tone to it. Its kind of like those reporters on the news that say,"A truck, which what looks like, the driver dangerously lost control and rammed into a light pole".

What many people would see or say would be, "A guy driving a truck lost control and hit a light pole."

I want to maintain continuity with people who are clicking on my link, this is a more professional presentation.

What your looking for is a frame forward most hosting companies/domain registrars do it for free.

Thanks daonoir! A"Frame Forward", that was what I was looking for...

To cloak your url or affiliate link just go to www.trustedlinks.net and make up a link name. Once you do that, your new link will be www.trustedlinks.net/whatever - its free..

You could just do what many people do and park one domain at the other one. Pages and people aren't redirected at all. They are just served the same pages from both domains.

Most decent hosts provide free domain parking.

Would you explain what you mean by that?
