Add Padding/Margin Inside Text Area (Not Around it, But Inside It)

Is their a good way to add padding or a margin inside of a text area. The text is butted up against the leftmost border of the text area and I'd like it to have a bit of padding so it's easier to read. Anyone have any thoughts on how I could achieve this?
