EVERYTHING can be found on the internet for free these days. you just have to find it.

VERY true.

I have found some amazing FREE sites over the years and would like to share them. likewhy's, I'm sure i havent seen everything and would like to know any tricks or free sites you have found. Heres the list. (bump this post once a day at least)

TUTORIALS
http://www.w3schools.com
The only place you'll ever want to go to learn ANYTHING that has to do with internet programming, scripting, and the such.

Test your JS, HTML, and other nonserverside scripts (http://www.w3schools.com/js/tryit.asp?filename=tryjs_text) To lazy to open up notepad? then use this.

HOSTING
http://www.geocities.com
n00b site. don't do anything professional with geocities or you'll regret it. just use it to get familiar with the BASICS then move on.

15 MB diskspace
unlimited bandwidth
easy interface

http://www.ionichost.com
very nice. supports PHP and has a MySQL database.

50 MB diskspace
unlimited bandwidth
HTML, JS, PHP4 compatible
Pop-under adds.(bannders optional if u dont like popunders) - TIP: have a link to a popup blocker on your page.

FTP
if you have windows xp just type ftp://www.yourdomain.com
http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.htm

Free
Easy

To use it, say your a student(on install it asks) if you want to be legal about it, don't use it if your site is a business.

you should definitely have www.w3schools.com in that list. But I can't for the life of me think why html goodies is in there! You should hear Charles on the subject!

This thread belongs in the General section, so it has been moved there.

Hate to point this out, but the first two sites you linked to suck. I've never heard of the third, so I can't be sure.

Geocities is a pathetic free host. It throws annoying ads on your page and generates javascript code that contains errors. Also, if you are interested in learning any serverside langauge, you'll have to go elsewhere.

HTML Goodies is even worse, expecially if you are new to programming. It contains incomplete and erratic information. Better off using http://www.w3schools.com or even better, the specs/documenation for the particular language you are trying to learn.

HTML Goodies is not that bad. I started out there. It's got a lot of good stuff in there. Yes, there are some issues, and I find that there's a lot of stuff that isn't there. But overall, it's not a bad site.

im glad im not the only person who thinks htmlgoodies.com is a decent site. it may not be up to date or have all teh info, but it explains it in a way that a 14 year old kid can understand..(oops, did i say my age over teh internet?

Lmao!
Yes, I am 15 and I found it very helpful when I was starting out (I still am by the way).

But, I'd be willing to bet that http://www.w3schools.com would be even better. Expecially once you are a bit more knowledgable about the language(s). That way, you won't have to try to break as many bad habits (hopefully ;))

hello pyro, and yes, www.w3schools.com is awesome. i just did a 4 hour tour of that website and its nice. not as "personal" as htmlgoodies but i'd say far better anyways in terms of information.

Bump, Bump-Bump it up! Bump, Bump-Bump it up!

>Incubus<

<Pardon Me>

A decade ago, I never thought I would be,
at twenty three, on the verge of spontaneous combusion.Woe-is-me.
But I guess that it comes with the territory; an ominous landscape of never ending calamity.
I need you to hear,
I need you to see, that I have had all I can take and exploding seems like a definite possibility to me.
So pardon me while I burst into flames.
I'v had enough of the world and it's people's mindless games.
So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame.
Pardon me, paron me... I'll never be the same.

Not two days ago, I was having a look in a book and I saw a picture of a guy fried up above his knees.
I said, "I can relate," cause' lately I'v been thinking of combustication as a welcomed vacation from the burdens of the planet earth.
Like gravity, hypocrisy, and the perils of being in 3-D...
and thinking so much differently.
So pardon me while I burst into flames.
I'v had enough of the world and it's people's mindless games.
So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame.

Pardon me, pardon me...I'll never be the same.
