We need a General Discussion Forum

Anyone else think so? I mean, from the short time that I have been here, it seems that many of you have much more to talk about than the geek crap many of us probably to for a living or hobby.

Personally, I would love to see more discussions about pets, sex, and monkeys, although combinations thereof may be a little distasteful. But fun!

No..I most certainly would not want that. I do not come here to talk about matters unrelated to computing and web development. There are plenty of forums out there to discuss monkeys and the like...if such a forum was added here I would cease comming here at all.

I come here to get occasional help on web and computing problems, as do many others, adding a truly "General Discussion Forum" would only drag it down into the slurry pit and attract all manner of spammers and verbally abusive people. And I come here to get a break from such people.

Don't misunderstand me, I like monkeys and pets but I do not wish to discuss it here..I am about to say something you will undoubtedly dislike but if you really detest this place that much, then why come at all? Why waste your time trying to insult us by insinuating that we are "Geeks" because we talk about computers?

Am I angry? Yeah..a little. Why? Because of the very nature of your post. Talking about various computing problems is not "Geek crap as you so eloquently put it but something some of us are interested in discussing..this forum was created to address and serve a particular need..not to be used as a "free for all" chat room.

If this seemed long winded it is because of the thinly veiled put down in the thread.

I apologize if my post offended; of course I meant none. My humour is a little self-effacing, is all, and it it seem to have spilled over a bit here. Obviously I would not insult members here, else I would not have complimented them on being interesting. Besides, I'm a geek too! Mea Culpa.

I think you are overreacting a bit, as I am pretty sure that I did not say that I hate it here, in fact, I think that I was sayiong the opposite, in stating that the members here are interesting (i.e. have a lot to talk about).

Having said that, I totally understand what you are saying about how other forums can get bogged down with real crap. I think though that a bit of good moderating would help ease that. I also think that if that was to happen here, it probably would have already, as not having such a general forum probably wouldn't put-off most trolls and flamers.

Anyhoo, sorry that you took this the wrong way - just trying to say that I do like it here, and think that it would be fun to branch out the topics of conversation a bit.

Please, I am not seeking or asking for an apology..I probably came off too strong myself. However while I agree there are other things to discuss..I as well as others come here to get certain questions answered..basically because, as the URL implies, it is about web development.

But teaching monkeys to use a computer would be quite a task though, wouldn't it? (Mmmm...Monkeys):p

You mean you don't already have a CompuApe? I find the best advantage to have a computing primate is that it can fully operate two keyboards at once - with hands and those disconcerting monkey-hand-feet.

Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout.
