I am a novice web developer - and I'm being asked to build a website for my company (my real job).

The specs for the company site are as follows:

- e-commerce for electronic materials (downloadable ebooks & videos)
- subscriber-based section of site
- feedback forms & interaction with customers

My question is: Can I do all this? Does it take a full-blown web design and programming degree to implement these features? And finally, would maintenance on a website of this kind be too much for me to handle?

I want to give my boss a definite answer, so what do you think? and what tools would I need if I go for it?

All input is appreciated! -Joshua Miller

If you haven't substantial training in the clientside languages (HTML,CSS,Javascript,XML) and at least one serverside language, as well as knowledge of databases and SQL, then yes, this is probably beyond your ability, currently. There are pre-fab shopping carts (plenty of them, some of them open source and free), but it still takes considerable knowledge to do everything you've outlined there.
