Need some help with next step...

I just recently downloaded MySQL community server 5.0

I would like to know what the next step is to get things started. Do I need to register on line or do anything else to set up this server on my computer? Do I need some sort of username and password? If so how do I go about doing this.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, directions do come with it.

Are you setting this up on a windows or linux machine (this is dependant on what to do next)

Windows setup is a bit uh more foolproof than linux. :)

I run on windows. I don't recall getting any instructions with it, I just went to the MySQL site, found the windows download version of the community server and downloaded it. I was working on a few other things while I was doing the download, I should have paid more attention to what I was doing. I know this isn't simple stuff to learn.


Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do next? By the way thanks for helping me out!

No I guess I havn't. Gees I sound dumb right now! I have two files related to MySQL.
One is - MySQL Command Line Client
and the other is - MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard.
