I'm currently trying to establish myself as a freelance web developer in the UK, but I'm not sure what sort of contract I would need to draw up with clients or where I can get hold of a sample contract without spending vast sums of money on hiring a lawyer. Is it also advisable for me to take out some insurance (e.g. professional indemnity insurance?) to cover myself in case there was ever a bug in my code and a client tried to sue me over it etc.?
My skills are primarily in back end programming, so I was initially going to market my services at web designers looking to outsource the back end parts of a project, rather than directly targeting clients who need websites set up. Will this affect the type of contract and insurance I'll need?
I've seen websites that offer sample contracts for sale, but most of these are for US law, so I'm assuming they wouldn't be suitable for use in the UK? I have found a couple of UK sites selling a whole variety of contracts but they didn't seem to be offering anything that looked relevant.
Any help or pointers to more info would be would be very much appreciated.
