Hey Guys,
I was wondering if anyone has good advice on how to get good search engine rankings. I've done all the free Google Webmaster tools for Google but on the page where it has the "PageRank" results it had the attached which I am assuming is not good??
Thank you,
Allie

Do not bother about Page Rank. Instead try for higher SERPs.

OH my gosh! Grimmylina... you need to forget that prior post was even made... because that comment about SERP's is crazy talk.
Here is why... Because what that poster is talking about is the ULTIMATE goal of what your doing. The higher the page rank the higher the "SERP", the tools, methods, and concepts that will improve your overall search engine traffic is what your looking for!
Here is the quick and dirty methods to what you want.
1. Quality links to other sites with higher PR than your own.
2. Quality Links back to your site from sites with a higher PR than your own.
3. New Site content added on a regular basis. How offten can you create new content for your site? Once a month is not enough, you can be rewarded for adding content daily to your site.
4. What terms do you want to come up highest on? tailor your content to those terms, add content to your core site concepts.
I could go on but chew on that for a bit... Also notice past posts in this forum about how changes at google are messing with traffic numbers.

Can I ask you something else? Does repeating a keyword on your site help?
My company has hired someone (who I don't think knows what he is doing? and he wants us ro do all sorts of stuff:
* repeating urls on one page
* crosslink our sites back and forth on each page
Does stuff like that even help?

he also wants us to put php parts on our site that will supposedly be constantly updated by some of our managers....which I don't think will happen because they don't even know how to create their own e-mail vacation responses.

Yes repeating your keywords help..but there is a limit.
Cross that limit and your in danger of being flagged for spamming..

So Steve,
Cane I ask you? Because like I said I don't think he knows what he is doing. This is our site:
http://www.southbeachgroup.com/
I've Googled our keywords on Google and sites that have less info come up first.
Will adding each of our separate hotel urls on our site really help us in any way?

hmmm..it could do.. it certaintly won't hurt... but from what i can see there are alot of things wrong with your site..
Its a shame because you should be topping the list easily with the ingredients you have..
but from where i'm standing it needs a complete overhaul...
Its not just one or two but many things that need addressing

PS.. i hope my last post didn't sound offensive

Yes, and while making is SE friendly, don't optimize it to the point where its not user-friendly. I've seen sites that were so optimized that they're not even readable by humans - their central audience.

Hi Guys,
Yes, I know. I have been in a power struggle with the IT guy who is working on our site. It's hard because he wants a bunch of links on the site which don't make sense from a designer's point of view like repeating our hotel names over and over again. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Theres a lot that can be done behind the scenes as it were... that doesn't affect the design at all..
On page factors are important... but off page factors are more important.
Its all about getting the balance right

Hi Guys,

I don't know much about SEO, but he's optimizing your site for search engines. Which means repeating keywords on relevant pages. When someone types in one of those keywords then your site will display somewhere on the search pages, it might be on page one or it might be on page 365. With search engine optimization (SEO) you are trying to increase which page in the SERPs (search engine results page) your site appears on. You increase your chances, in part, by repeating your keywords a few times on relevant pages. One of the keywords for your site is probably the name of the business, I'm assuming. There are two types of SEO - black hat and white hat. Using black hat SEO is what will get your site banned by search engines such as Google. An example of black hat SEO would be using the hidden attribute to hide keywords on a page, or making the text of your keywords the same color as the background so they can't be read by the human eye, but only the search engine.
Keep in mind that you don't want to repeat the same keywords over and over again to the point that its not readable by your visitors. I don't know if you visit web development sites a lot, but they like to use the keywords web design and web development throughout their site many times. This is because if someone types into a search engine the keywords "web develpment" or "web design" then they are trying to increase their chances of their site appearing higher in the search results when someone types in those words into the SE. And, its even better if you can get your keywords into the anchor text, which is the actual link.
You have a right to know what your webmaster is up to. Some people don't know until it's too late and they find out that google has banned their site from its search engine. If you don't know why your IT guy is doing this then ask questions. Also, you can ask for an SEO review on different forums where SEO experts will review the optimization of your site to make sure everything is done correctly. There are also SEO tutorials over the Internet that will help you understand SEO a little better. Here's one, SEO guy tutorial. (http://www.seo-guy.com/tutorial.html)

Hi,
I understood your problem.First concentrate on your content first.Of course rich content will automatically drag good back links and increase traffic to your site. These good back links automatically increase your page rank. When exchanging links with others sites exchange in content page not in resource page.Try this. All the Best!

Good idea Stacy...I should. I've been asking questions to the point that he wants to kill me now. We had an argument over pop-up windows yesterday....I think now his main obsession is tracking our visitors which is all good but it's like you guys said..there's a point where tracking has to take a backseat to making the site useable.
