Hey Everybody!!!

This post is quite general. I had to think really hard about where to put it. I hope, first, that someone can help us and, second, that we have not posted inappropriately or that we are asking too much.

My girlfriend's identity and personal/password information were compromised and the individual who did it created a phony email address w/yahoo using her name and began sending malicioius and false email messages in her name. These messages were sent to a number of hotmail accounts belonging to individuals very close to her. The result has been false and damaging messages being sent around Amsterdam that are far more than just annoying; these messages are, in fact, destroying people's lives as I type this post.

What We Have Done So Far

We have gotten the IP address belonging to the computer that created the Yahoo account by accessing the expanded header option on Hotmail and verifying it by uncovering the source of the email itself. With the IP address in hand, we did a reverse look up and ended being halted by the ISP when trying to identify the individual computer on their server. As you all can probably guess, the ISP is protecting the identity of both the computer and the individual who used it to open this bogus account and send the damaging email.

Problem With Getting A Subpoena

Law enforcement is NOTORIOUSLY uncooperative (maybe even as much as the ISP itself), and, too, this case involves literally two countries (Holland, where the ISP is located; and the UK where Yahoo has its European operations).

WE NEED TO FIND THE COMPUTER TO WHICH THIS IP ADDRESS CORREPSONDS. If anyone can help, please contact me immediately!!! Here is the IP address: XX.XX.XXX.XXX I can offer further details.

THANK YOU!!!

Not too long ago I did a 'reverse lookup' of a spammer's IP and it took me a few atempts, but I came to what allegedly is the user's lastname & first-inital, and street (postal) address, in Moscow, Russia.
While being unable & unwilling myself to do anything about the offending post other than my permanently banning the spammer (the post was lewd & crude and quite ban-worthy), I thought it was rather unskilled for someone to 'spam' and still be able to reverse lookup his mailing address and name, etc.

I'm glad that you aren't offended that I X'd out the IP addy. Posting 'Personal Contact Info' (user's own, or anyone else's), isn't allowed, -even if this person is a cretin and deserves bad things to come his way.

I'm going to PM a short message & suggestion to you..

Thanks! Absolutely! BTW, integrity means nothing if we cannot follow the rules that are designed to protect others. What would I look like complaining about poor "netiquette" and malicious spamming, while at the same time breaking the rules that I want to protect me? Indiscretion notwithstanding (cuz it was an oversight), it was still wrong.

Thanks again for "pulling my coat tail", Joel! You're cool with me!
