If JavaScript slow down web page loading

Will you tell me, if I include the JavaScript Codes in my web page, will the web page loading time be slow down when user open the web page?

I think, JavaScript codes are text codes. The download speed should be as faster as text file. and I image that JavaScript codes take less CPU to run than *.exe codes

But I feel it slow down the loading time

Any slowdown should not be that noticable but it would also depend on what the codes are doing
