trouble loading images

I have a processing page that displays when I am doing any backend processing on the database, and sometimes the animated gif file will go thru a couple frames of animation and then one of the frames will appear to 1/2 way load and the rest of the image will just show a grey background. I'm guessing that perhaps the gif file is trying to animate before it's completely loaded, but once it hits this "grey area" on the image, it stays that way. I thought that if it was just a problem of the picture not loading completely, that the image would finish loading and resume the animation instead of stalling. Kind of the way a jpeg loads from top down on a page on the internet. If anybody has any suggestions or ideas of why this might be happening, please feel free to share them. Thanks in advance.
