.NET framework

Someone at work told me that I should download .NET framework version 2 since I only have version 1.

Is this necessary? Will it mess up my computer? I'm clueless about this.

Do I download it from Microsoft?

You could download it, google it, or go onto ms website and search for it.
Why do you need it though. You writing a .net 2.0 app? Or do you need to run one? There's no need to download it just because someone said so, if all your apps work fine and you're not a .net 2.0 developer, then why bother?
