Hi everyone!
I've been asked to do a website involving some flash content - nothing much, just a small animation at the top, but having never used Flash I am slightly unsure where to start?!
Has anyone got any tips? What software do I need to start with? I've been on the Adobe website and their Flash CS3 Professional software is about US$700!? Is there anything a bit cheaper? I am happy paying for software but I cannot afford THAT much?!?
Any help would be appreciated - thanks in advance!
Cheers

You can get the trial version for 30 days if you think you can finish in this time

Yeah, that's what I thought. Problem is when I come to edit the site at a later date. Still, I guess I'll deal with that then...

There are tons of options other than the Adobe Flash product for creating SWF files. Many are much cheaper, and some free! I personally use PHP/Ming and or MTASC. The Adobe Flash IDE offers tons of options you don't need for a basic SWF.
Try googling "create SWF" and you'll find lots of other options!
Have a great day!

just my 2 cents, but a pretty decent program with great bang for your buck is Ulead's Photo Impact. Its not just a photo editing program it also has a gif animator which allows you to do a pretty decent job of flash as well.
I've used it many times for simple flash applications. For 10% the price, it's a good tool for making banners & such. No wheres near as comprehensive as flash , but great for the beginner.

Thanks blue_masked_man.
Does the program you speak of create animated gifs only, or does it export SWF files too? I have a GIF animation tool but, as I understand it, Flash is vector based, which should result in a significantly smaller file size for the stuff I am thinking of doing (text, floating on static background). Thoughts?

Yes you can export & save it as a .swf as well.
Like I say, it's no where's as comprehensive as flash, but for the cost, it's great.
I have imported .gifs I made & saved them as flash for rollovers & banners & such.
The company that makes it is owned by the makers of corel draw. You'd think I worked for them or something.. lol, actually I do prefer the adobe products, but this program is great for the person that just wants to make simple text & image flash.
