First things first, Internet Explorer 7 is not visible in the Add Remove Programs application.

I was playing around with the registry values for internet explorer trying to correctly get a standalone version of IE6 to correctly obey conditional stylesheets but it didn't materialize. (If anybody knows how to do that by the way, please let me know). So now I want to uninstall IE7 and head back to IE6 - I'm in the last stages of site development and I would like to have IE6 on my computer (and since I can't get a standalone version to obey conditional stylesheets, then I need to unstall IE7).

I reset all registry values for IE7 back to their default but I'm still nowhere with it, any ideas?

You'll find it in Control Panel > Windows Components

This (http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE) works for me.

Go in to Add/Remove programs. It doesn't show up in the regular programs list.

Now, if you have Win. XP, on the left there's a button that says "Add/Remove Windows Components." In Vista, the button is "Turn Windows features on or off". There's no option to remove IE in the Vista version, but I think it may be in XP....

I briefly had IE7 installed... I did not like the way it performed. I was having trouble finding things (bookmarks, etc). And it was slower... the responce-time was lagging. I'd click a toolbar item and ...wait... wait.... ...wait then the drop-down would appear (usually after I clicked it a second, third or fifth time and thenm two, three or five rapid successive drop-downs would occur and retract.. It was a dismal, tiring experience. And a source of angst.

I decided to UN-install this piece of crap and oddly enough, it un-installed cleanly, accurately, without crying or whining and it reverted me back to my former (somehwhat)reliable IE6. I was rather impressed.. M$ is not known for making decent un-installers. One usually has to get another program to un-install things like this. A typical uninstall of a M$ program at the very least, leaves empty folders and unused *dll files and other 'orphaned files' all over the place that require manual deletion (and only if you know where to look...)

You need to install the older versions in a virtual environment if you want them to work properly. The standalone installs still share half the code of the latest version and so only behave partly like the really buggy browsers that they represent and partly like the not quite so buggy IE7.

I posted that already.

You may try Add/Remove 4Good (http://www.sharewarecheap.com/Add-Remove-4Good_software_2353.html), which can easily uninstall any stubborn applications. I've tried this software. It works pretty fine on XP.
