i have Expression Web, but i am about to start work on a website that requires PHP, as opposed to Expression Web's ASP capabilities,

i do not have Dreamweaver, how good is Nvu for PHP development ?

Not a clue regarding NVU, but I use either:

PS Pad:

http://www.pspad.com

or

PHP Designer

http://www.mpsoftware.dk/phpdesigner.php

It's free for personal use. I like both of these because it has syntax highlighting which is extremely helpful when programming in languages with C syntax, such as PHP.

Not terribly.

Look on their website, it probably states what's deemed as personal use.

i'm just this week giving nvu a shot .

Because of DW's cost hopefully this could solve A couple client issues. Those who want to update their own site text.

I have a feeling your clients aren't going to like NVU either. Let me try Contribute or set them up with a CMS solution such as Drupal.

No, Drupal is an open source content mgmt solution that your end-users can use to easily update their web pages inside their website. However, it does look like Drupal has a fairly high learning curve.

so would you suggest another CMS that's not as difficult to learn ?

Personally I don't like NVU but I only used it a couple of times. It just kept adding heaps of crap code to my pages which annoyed me. Although I didn't even look to see if I could turn it off.

Any good CMS is going to take a while to learn. You either take the time now to learn it or you fool around with a solution that doesn't meet your needs. I've been looking at Drupal for my employer but I haven't had a chance to dive into the documentation.
