me and my friends have this one particular legacy app that allows you to connect over IPX (v1?), serial, or phone line.
the IPX connection is simply not an option. i went to radio shack, bought a crossover serial cable, and tried to use it, but never got it to work, much to my chagrin. we found a software serial port solution, that takes the data coming over the serial port, and sends it over an IP port, but it would often disconnect our game, and never be able to reconnect.
the final possibility is the phone line, which leads to my question.. is there a device you can purchase that is basically a double ended phone line, that i could stick between two computers so that they can communicate over dialup? think of it as a crossover ethernet cord that has two phone numbers... ive always wondered about this, but never knew if there was a solution like i envisoned.
simply looking for confirmation that this does or does not exist, not workarounds, thanks!
