I help maintain and run Uniball (http://www.uniball-central.com), a simple 2-d game that's multiplayer over the internet. Some other members of the community and I have come up with an interesting ladder that uses php and MySQL to keep what basically boils down to a ton of statistics. The problem is that, while the site is cool, the site is not cool, because the site looks like crap.
What we need is a sort of flashy design (not based on the macromedia product) that neatly presents a lot of information. Our working theory is that eyecandy really is important - our audience is mostly 12-15 year olds and their attention span is, well, limited. We don't think that our league can be successful, despite the amount of work we've put into it, without a pretty nice looking site. The two people we had on the team that had pretty good design skills crapped out, so I'm turning to online communities.
There is no money in this - the only reward will be fame within Uniball's 1500-or-so population. Also, the script is done, so you can be guaranteed that if you finish your part you will have been part of a complete project, which looks good on college applications and resumes when you have zero other experience (not to tailor only to those with zero experience!). Uniball has been maintained by the community (including myself) for over 4 years, so you can be sure that you will be a part of something solid and well-founded. The current project is not publicly available yet, but the last ladder that this group coded has been up for a couple of years, at http://www.uniball-central.com/ladder - we hope this new league is much more impressive than that ladder.
If you're interested, please reply here, or send an email to riley@uniball-central.com with "Webpage" or something in the subject so I can differentiate it from the other mail I get. Thanks!
