I made my first XHTML template yesterday and wanted to see what everyone thinks. The template is at http://www.shaneriley.info/templates/teal_stripe and can be downloaded for use at http://www.shaneriley.info/downloads/Teal_Stripe.zip

Nice. The background is a bit strong, but that this validates no warnings/ no errors, looks the same on IE6 as on Firefox AND fits nicely into 1024 x 800 and 800 x 600 resolutions... I am impressed. :D None of these things ever happens accidentally...

I think you'll be posting 'helps' here in the forums yourself. :p

Thank you very much! I have been a Web developer for some time, and now that I started the freelance gig full time, I feel I need to get in to design as well. That's why the code's good but the design may not be. I definitely was fighting myself over the background, and actually have 6 other images I was toying with using. That one turned out to be the least worst.

I'll definitely be posting answers to layout issues on this forum, and will post new designs I come up with as I go in order to get a better understanding of what works and what doesn't.

Agree the background takes away from the design of the actual page. Very nice, clean and most important of all Simple!
