Hello,
I am having problems with my website- the font size seems to vary on all computers. On my computer, the font size looks fine, but on my friends computer and the library, the page font looks a lot smaller. I tried using CSS to fix this, but it still didn't work. (I guess the 2 main problems for the font size is screen res. and font size set on your computer (large, or small- I am set for a large font size at 800x600).

I just want the majority of the people to view my website the correct way, so I have made it look nice on a certain format- which is bad for me, but may be good for 99% of other people- I just want my site to look good.

So, here is a screenshot of the way my site looks on my computer, and I hope many people could reply, saying it either looks the same, looks smaller (which I hoping it is), or is even bigger.

Screenshots would also be greatly appreciated! Thanks

What my site looks like on my computer:http://members.aol.com:/R22cool34/isee.jpg I know the image is low quality, but it doesn't matter :D

The link to my site (I know the other links dont work, and a couple other minor fixes will be implemented shortly) My site link (http://www.geocities.com/turbodieseleng/BarbWire.html)

Screen shot is Mozilla set to 200% text zoom, which breaks the table layout.
Why not let users view your site with a font size they want?

It is not really advisable to be using points 'pt' for screen display in webpages, use something relative like pixels, em's, or percentages, and yes the page fonts are alright on a 1024 x 768 pixel display.

The quote thingy isn't working- it keeps quoting my original topic

Fang, the reason why I'm not letting people view the site with what they want, is the fact that I cannot edit the page size myself in AOL- and you know how many AOL user's there are :D -I can edit the font size if I open IE, but, thats just too much work just to view a website.

I was hoping to have a given size, and have it look the same on most computers, and the way I want the site to look- I could use pictures to fix all of this, but then the site would take way too long to load.

I have tried using pixels instead. Thanks for the screenshots and any more would be appreciated- by the way, Fang, your attachment, if you look around my text, you see those grayish lines that surround the center collumn (with the news)- those aren't suppose to be there? Could I ask what browser version you have of Mozilla (unless there is only one- I don't know, I'm not very good with all this info). Any suggestions about how to fix this?

*I have updated my site to use pixels, more feedback would be appreciated

Those "grayish lines" are the result of your table layout breaking up.
At some point in this thread someone is going to say don't use tables for layout.
W3C recommends not using tables for layout and does recommend relative units for fonts.
It was Mozilla 1.4

I think it looked ok.

I have a 1152x864 res with font size set to small; still, the menu has huge text in it. Try to make it smaller.

Hey Fang, would you know how to get rid of those grayish lines?

I took the advice about the text, and tried to make it smaller- looks good for my computer, not sure how it will affect others.

Here's what my website looks like on my computer- (no more sacrifising, :D)

Please let me know what you think.

In your TABLE id=AutoNumber1 the border=1
If you set the table border in the style definition and then set border=1 you are overriding the style.

For the Table id=AutoNumber1, I deleted the border- I only found one of those borders for that certain table.

(I notice no difference on my computer, but thats becuase it didn't show the grayish lines to begin with)

Oh, also, could anyone let me know how to get rid of the extra black space at the bottom of the site- once again, it shows up fine on my computer, but once uploaded, it has that black space at the bottom.

Anyways, just let me know how it works

Anyone have any suggestions or any pictures?

Still breaking up. You have 13 tables in your layout.
If you must use tables use just one, it can be done.
put all your styles in a style sheet and use classes and ids.
border-width: medium will be different widths in different browsers, use px
Which black space do you mean exactly?

Rick_Garrison

Wow, the text is still that big? Is that becuase its on 200% zoom? If thats the way it looks normally, then, I don't know whats happening.

I'll try to fix up my site using one big table and such. The black space, well, its not there anymore, so I did something to fix it, LOL.

Any more suggestions or pics would be (once again) appreciated

Ok, I just got rid of all the "medium" parts of table borders and I'm hoping it looks better now. Once again, the link is:

Looks fine, bright blue text is a bit hard to read however. Other than that looked fine on IE 6.0.2, Win 98, 1024x768. Loads fine on a 56k to.

Thanks for looking, do you have any screenshots so I could see how it looks?

By the way Fang, were you zooming in, which caused by page to distort, becuase maybe most people won't have it set to 200%, so my site may look good on some "normal" view?

Your site should still be legible and not break-up at 50% all the way up to 200% and beyond.

-(I don't mean for this to sound mean, just the way it seems to be typed sounds like I'm mad or something, but I'm not, LOL)-

Fang, I wasn't quite sure what you said, did you say that AT 50% AND higher it didn't load right? So, would that mean 100% doesn't load right? Any pics of my website at 100% would also be appreciated.

Thanks 96turnerri! (especially for the detailed info)

I think the font size looks perfect :D- now, the page was made for 800x600, so thats why it may seem kinda small, but at least its centered. Plus, a lot of other sites look smaller on the 1024x768 resolution

Anyways, turnerri, if you want, do you have any suggestions- did it all look nice?

firstly you ever thought bout playing rvs??

i dont know what your plans are for the links as the pages havnt been made, may i suggest keeping the border if you get what i mean banner, links on side and affiliates hosted by on the page so they dont load, use frames or something and when a link is selected it loads in the centre of 'border'

i would change contact us to email us as it is a mailto: link and ppl with slower computers maybe annoyed when clicking this link as msoe can take a while to open

last comment the right most pic of the three in the banner is hard to see im not sure what its supposed to be

hope this helps

1. Yes, I'm going to mod RVS :D

2. Thanks for the suggestions

3. The right most pic in the banner- is a picture of a operative getting blown up by a grenade- His back is almost parrellel with the ground and his arms are spread out, one hand holding a gun- the smoke all around him is from the grenade blast. You can also see his legs- the one one leg is almost vertical.
I can see how you didn't know what it might have been- I knew what it was since its a motion file in the game, but if you'd never seen it before, then I could understand. (I know some good RS/GR/RVS links if you want them)

Thanks for the help, I suppose everything is pretty good- if you find an error, or have a suggestion or picture, feel free to post it :D

Ok, here's a cool site:

Planet Rainbow Six (http://www.planetrainbowsix.com) (has modding sites)

Cool modding forums where I hang out: *DAMN Forums (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/index.php)

I don't use these, but I may eventually: Raven Shield Platoon (http://www.theplatoon.com/ravenshield/)

Now all the links have mods for RS/GR/RVS- In the forums, my name is Rigid Ice- right now I'm making a mod for RS- I will soon be modding RVS, so I guess it's something to look foward to ;)

I'm extremely close to releasing a mod (uniform mod) for RS/UO, but, I'll mod RVS later- not too much later though (I'm going to make one more mod for UO- a TC). Once I start modding RVS, I'll let you know, but most importantly, what's your e-mail?

Oops, LOL

Ok, I'll get back with ya when I get to modding RVS- not sure how long that'll be. Raven2367 at the forums asked me to join his team since they were in need of a skinner and were impressed with my skins for UO- :D He's modding RVS, so I will eventually start too.

Now, if anyone has anymore suggestions or pics, maybe you have a diff. screen res or older browser, feel free to post screenshots. If not, then, thanks for all the previous help!

Any type of older browser- 3.0-5.0 etc. -or just the browser version most people use (whatever that may be)

Also, maybe different screen res- such as 800x600- I've seen a few 1024x728 already
