do take note, susan, that most music and almost all movie downloads are illegal.

Not only are they illegal, but you may also end up downloading more than just music. I mean some things you don't want on your PC

I have Ares, and it's 100% legal to have on your machine.
There is a loophole involved to where the P2P software is legal, but pretty much anything you can download there is copyrighted material making it illegal to download that material free.
1. Keep your downloads folder clear
2. Stay smart
3. Have solid antivirus
4. Never offer illegal material from your shared folder, get it out
And you'll be fine........ Or they may throw you in that prison where myself and 100,000,000 other people are who use P2P. :D

the thing that scares me is that there are new lawsuits everyday for people using P2P software. especially now that one lady actually lost the case for over $200,000 for using kazaa

Can you post up a link to the official article, I'd like to read it. She was probably the one offering the illegal material from her shared folder being ignorant.
Follow the steps above to stay clean, you'll be fine.
Thanks

Thanks for the link bflosabre91,
Reading the article proved what I suspected, she was the person sharing all of the illegal content. So she deserved to get popped. My shared folder stays empty.
So it stands that no harm can come to you by having a P2P program, or using it. Just keep your shared folder empty.
Here's a lil story for you guys: (yeah I'll admit it :o )
I pirated Flash Authoring from a P2P, I liked it so much and became so interested in it that I contacted Adobe and bought CS3 for $700. The 30 day trial period Adobe gives you would never have been enough to really understand it and really desire it. I pirated it for like 4 months, saved up the dough and bought it straight from adobe's site for $700.
So the lesson is, without me pirating it from a P2P Adobe would have never made a $700 sale. Never would nave made the sale. And Adobe has made $1200 more off of me since then cuz I like Flash so much.
I know that is just one case, but I bet it happens a lot like that.
Much the same as if you download a tune and really dig it, you might just pick up that artist's whole collection at circuit city for big $$$.
And I'd be willing to gamble all of my money on saying that 99% of tech savvy individuals have a P2P on their machine, and use it to get illegal stuff. even the moderators here. Everyone should stop acting like they don't. Be real.

I stole my mom's purse to get cash to gamble and I actually won and paid mom more than I stole so the theft was a good thing.
Don't ya just love rationalization?

So explain to me sarge how Adobe would have ever made that $1900 from me without my dirty little pirating action.
It's not rationalization, it's called business.

Oh and I told Adobe that I pirated it for four months, and they did not even care. Like they knew it was beneficial to business.
So despite everyone's smart allecky comments, when I get on a P2P file sharing program companies make money, not lose it. It's my track record. I am no louse. Don't dare to call me one.

I'll explain it to you right after you tell how and why you rationalized it. :)

i understand the whole not sharing ur files thing....but if everyone stops sharing, then how will you get any files? or are you just saying cover you own butt, and let the other people take the fall cause they are dumb?

i def agree with you however, i can honestly say that i do not use P2P anymore. but i agree with what u said as well, that i would also dl songs and such, then go out and buy the cd. i may have tons of songs i dl, but i have double the amount in cds that i bought

They should go and shut down Ares, kazza, morphues, etc... then problem solved. They get away with that loophole crap and that is weak. They should be attacked not Ms. Thomas.

And I'm glad you have some guts bflosabre91... thanks

I would'nt. How could I?
I think we're kinda on the same wavelength bflosabre91.
Should'nt they shut down the source of all the problems? Instead of beating around the bush.
Those programs and sites exist cuz of the loophole. That is stupid, people have been lying to themselves for thousands of years. The government can close that loophole on them if they wanted to no matter what the constitution says.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.....
Ares, morpheus, kazza etc... help us to sin so easily. Take me to jail.
It's just another feather in our American Cap(crap).

even without the P2P programs out there, i can still burn cds and give them to my friends, or have my friends burn cds for me. the fact that i cant dl the songs, doesnt mean i will buy the cd now. it just means i wont listen to that band, and never go to their concerts, buy their merch and all that jazz. imo P2P didnt nothing but help the music industry by making it easier for bands to be heard. i mean everyone and their grandmother has an mp3 player of some sort now. music is bigger than ever and bands and record labels can thank P2P for that, instead of suing 5 of the millions people that dl

i tried napster when i was in middle school and got about 5 songs from it. in the last 8 years i have used p2p programs 0 (zero) times. i have been a web developer for 6 years now.
i guess i'm the 1%.
And I'd be willing to gamble all of my money on saying that 99% of tech savvy individuals have a P2P on their machine, and use it to get illegal stuff. even the moderators here. Everyone should stop acting like they don't. Be real.

I have never used P2P. Most of the "tech savvy individuals" I know don't use it either. You really need to base your "gambles" on a bit of facts, instead of accusing a lot of people of stealing.
But, nevertheless, the original question was "Can anyone tell some good sites where I can get music and videos?" There was no inference of illegal activities. So, if no one knows any (and if they are illegal, don't mention them here or it will be your last post), then we'll just close the thread.

throwing around such accusations in some circles would get you killed; here it just makes me wonder why i should bother. (it's a good thing we kicked the mob out)
it does me no good to lie in this thread:
if i have programs, lie and i get called on it, then i lose credibility, honor, etc. if i have programs and ignore the thread, then i neither confirm nor deny anything and can maintain an air of innocence. if i do not have the programs and say that i do not, then i establish myself as a conflicting argument and the debate can continue. if i do not have the programs and ignore the thread, then your claim of 99% would almost seem justified, as none is willing to dispute. because i value truth, debate, and openness i say here again in this open forum that i do not use these programs and that i believe that your estimate of 99% is extremely exaggerated.
