The two big ones are Nvidia and ATI. Both rock.
ATI is based in Canada, and does good stuff.
Nvidia is based in... I dunno, but they do somewhat better stuff.

It all depends on your personal preference. I prefer Nvidia myself.
Although, you don't need that much graphics memory. Even a 16mb card can perform well, if and only if you update its drivers and software.

Just be sure to do that and stay within your budget.
But, get either a 128mb or 256mb card. It'll work well.
(But be sure it's VISTA savvy!)

Are you going to be gaming?

If so I recommend Nvidia GeForce 8800GT (512MB 256-bit GDDR3 RAM); best bang for the buck about $286-$300 USD

The 8800GT has an excellent rep. However, I do know that the gts version takes a lot of power, not sure how much the gt uses, so you might want to check your psu is up to the job.

Im pushing a n 8800GTS 640, overclocked with a 600w PSU...thats with tons of other stuff as well. The card runs at 180 degrees @ max load haha. Depending on what else you are running...id recommend at least 550w.
