How to make your site a multilingual one

Hello,

I saw some websites has small mutinational icon flags at the top of the page; clicks on one flag and your site turns into that language. This is really cool thing. Could any one shed some lights into this subject. I would love to have that on my site.

i done it at my site - www.ayrshireminis.com, basically written in PHP and I write a PHP session when the flag is clicked. two different directories /en for english and /de for german.

any more info needed just ask.......
