The major differences between handheld and desktop browsers and computers:

* Reduced processing and memory capacity

* Web standards? Kiss them goodbye unless the browser being used is from Opera or Apple's Safari.

* Often vastly reduced screen size

* No mouse

* May have a touch screen, keyboard, key pad, or any combination of the three

* JavaScript may not be available, or may not be available for the whole time a Web page is displayed.

* HTML, CSS, JavaScript and image files sizes are more of a concern, mostly due to the aforementioned slower processors and reduced memory capacity.

* Slower Internet connection speeds, though this will probably change in the next 5 years

* Horizontal scrolling is absolutely forbidden. Since there is no mouse, it's often hard enough to scroll vertically, much less both vertically and horizontally

* The color depth might range from monochromatic to full, 24 bit color.

* People are often charged for online access on a time basis, or amount of data transferred. Keep your total page weight down as much as possible, and your download times as quick as possible. This is mainly the case for Internet-enabled cell phones.
