hi i am new to the webdesign industry and have taken a job to design a site for a client but they want me to copy another website. instead off trying to be original the client wants me to "rip off" another website and re apply their own content i am dubious about doing this and dont really want to should i refuse to do it or am i being to picky about my methods i appreciate any opinions about this as i dont want to loose a job because of being petty but i do beleive there is a law about steeling or copying interlectual work called copywrites. any advice will be well recieved. Thanks

Sure, do it... If you're comfortable with possibly getting sued that is.

You should immediately drop that client, in my opinion. You'll likely get nothing but rotten tomatoes from a client like that. Not only would I drop them, I would tell as many people as possible about them and what type of thievery they're into. That way maybe someone else could avoid getting into trouble as well.

But, that is just my opinion... Perhaps others see the issue differently...

You might suggest to them that making a screen for screen duplication of a site is not possible, but that you could create them an original design that has similar features and may even be better!

i have suggested that i can produce a site with the same topoligy and principle funtion but to copy the artwork would be wrong to do as it wouldnt create the right image for them but they just keep saying i want a site identical to this one and by identical he actually use the phrase rip off their site. so what your saying is that as my first feeling says DONT DO IT!

thankyou for your answers i now feel i know which direction to go with this. i am always intrested in other points of view but think i will go with my first thought.

These people don't mess around... trust me... you can get sued up the wazoo, and your client more than likely can too.
