I'm keen to comply with the W3C standards and was hoping that someone could point me in the direction of some free downloadable validation tools for html etc.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I just use the online version but if you are intent on doing it off line then I would switch to XHTML and use an XSL validating preprocessor. I use Saxon (http://saxon.sourceforge.net/). There's also a validating plug in for HTML Kit.

Thanks for the link Charles.
I've just had a quick look at it and it's done my head in.
I thought I was getting used to some of these abbreviations ie ASP PHP etc.
I'm afraid some of the things mentioned here don't mean anything to me. Sorry for being a bit thick.
Here's me thinking I was beginning to get to grips with Web site design.
I shall have another look tomorrow hopefully when the mist in front of my eyes as cleared away.
