In MS Outlook, the answer is:
Go to the Sent Items folder in Outlook and open the message you want to recall. Click on Recall This Message in the Tools menu.

How about with Yahoo!, Hotmail, Gmail ?

Is there another type of Email protocol where you could yank a sent email back?

wtf? in outlook it doesn't send the email right away, only once it requests new emails, so for web mail it doesn't work in the same way.

in thunderbird you can go to sent items and simply delete the email(or move it from the folder) to cancle sending it, and Evolution-mail offers a similar option.

E-mail is a fast way to communicate with others, so it's easy to make mistakes, to send an email we wish we didn't send.

You can do the following:

1. In Mail, in the Navigation Pane, click Sent Items.
2. Open the message you want to recall or replace.
3. On the Actions menu, click Recall This Message.
4. Click Delete unread copies of this message.

Note If you are sending the message to a large number of people, you may want to consider clearing the Tell me if recall succeeds or fails for each recipient check box.

1. Select whether only to delete the message or to delete and replace the message.
2. Select the check box to receive a confirmation that the recall was successful.

However, the recall may not be successful. It depends on the settings you have in Outlook.

I don't have any answers to Yahoo, Hotmail and G-mail

You asked about another type of Email protocol. What i have in mind is the E2db Server. I have no experience with it. Perhaps others on this site have. I'm really curious to read what others have to say about it.

I wish that all e-mail had that ability. The old AOL-mail was like that.. If you sent the mail, it goes to the Server and waits for the recipient to open their mail. If they *have not not yet* opened the mail, you had the ability to 'recall' the mail, edit, add or delete the mail.
If the recipient has already read it, -you're too late...

The recall options only work before the email is actually sent. Once it has actually been sent then an email is impossible to recall.

What about the other type of Email protocol, the Email 2 or E2db Server that was mentioned previously? What's this about? I googled it, read it but i didn't get it. Could someone explain it? I also discover the existence of Internet 2.
Has anyone used Email 2 and/or Internet 2 ?

Interesting, I received the following today. According to the header, the user is using Outlook's recall feature. Not too swift ... (pertinent parts replaced with ##)

#### #### would like to recall the message, "###################".

I had already received the message. Kind of late isn't it? E-mail is instantaneous. Once sent, it's gone.
