It seems too busy, to me - especially the upper portion of the homepage. Seems like all that could be condensed so it doesn't take up half the screen.

well, i figured that thunderfish doesn't have control over the top portion of the page. it seems like this person is a member of afterdawn.com, who is hosting his/her blog....

i thought that it was just a review of the blog itself. am I wrong here? maybe thunderfish can clear that up.

I don't know -- maybe they're options you can turn off. I really didn't think about the hosting, only the look of it.
