I find it out of place in that it doesn't blend well with the other colors. Your advert should be below "About" because it looks like a 'no content just ads' page. You need to remove the space at the very top. It's wasted and looks like a markup error was made. Speaking of errors, there are 47 html errors. There is no such thing as "web 2.0 design". "Web 2.0" is about interaction and structure of applications and has nothing to do with design. Baby Jai 12-25-2007, 01:46 PM well 2.0 is what you make up of it isnt it? The way I understand is glossy buttons and easier to read on the eyes and such. Where is there 47 html errors? drhowarddrfine 12-25-2007, 02:54 PM well 2.0 is what you make up of it isnt it?Not at all. (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/oreilly/tim/news/2005/09/30/what-is-web-20.html)The way I understand is glossy buttons and easier to read on the eyes and such.It has nothing to do with design at all (http://www.wired.com/techbiz/people/news/2007/04/timoreilly_0413) Tim O'Reilly, who coined the term and created the Web2.0 conference, says Web 2.0 is about the web as a platform and web services.Where is there 47 html errors?I don't know but I got 47 errors before. Did you change something? kiwibrit 12-25-2007, 03:22 PM Slow to load, here. WebJoel 12-25-2007, 04:12 PM Quite slow to load: nearly a minute at 56-K, just under 8-seconds for me at nearly T-1. I only spoted three miniscule 'warnings' in validation with TIDY. Probably some re-using of images and optimization of same would speed this up alot. :) saintpretz59 12-26-2007, 05:57 PM On the pages where users can enter data, space it out a bit. They look cramped. Don't be afraid to make the user scroll down! In my opinion, it'd look better with more space The picture of you on the front page suffers from red-eye. remove the redeye, and reload it :). There are a fair amount of spelling and grammar errors. Simple things such as: "there/their/they're" forgotten apostrophes, lack of comma... run your site through an online spell/grammar check. Otherwise, i like it. (but it's slow to load. Baby Jai 12-27-2007, 02:53 PM Not at all. Did you change something? ok seriously http://www.photoshop-pack.com/pspack/24/Stylish_Web_2_0_Navigation so all people that are graphic designers including myself have no idea what we are talking about then? 2.0 is about glossy buttons as far as graphic designers are talking about. Read the link..... Now I dont know about the errors, I ran an xhtl check and fixed some height issues with tables. Ill work on the red eye fix tonight, but as far as the loading goes, I have no idea why, it loads nice and fast for me. dtm32236 12-28-2007, 04:34 PM 2.0 is about glossy buttons as far as graphic designers are talking about. Read the link..... The man that coined the term disagrees (http://www.wired.com/techbiz/people/news/2007/04/timoreilly_0413). So, I think that he's got a better idea of what web 2.0 means. But you're going to argue that some random ass-clown that wrote a mediocre photoshop tutorial is correct? You lost that battle. Moving on.... ...it loads nice and fast for me. Probably because it's on your local network and it's cached on your computer. You should probably optimize your images. this (http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/imageoptimizer/) is supposed to work pretty well. The site and layout is nice and easily navigated, but it is a little dark (I obviously realize that's what you're going for, but) it could definitely use a little highlighting or something on 'key areas' of the page. dtm32236 12-28-2007, 04:39 PM but since you are going for "web 2.0 design", I do have to thank you for not using this stupid reflected logo (http://bitnami.org/) nonsense that everyone's doing because "that's what web 2.0 looks like". it's really getting old and EVERY site has this crap now... people need to come up with something original. Jick 12-28-2007, 04:55 PM Man, you guys said it! I'm tired of people thinking "Web 2.0" is some kind of design style. I wonder where that even started? Web 2.0, like previously stated, has nothing to do with glossy buttons! To think that is just stupid... TJ111 12-28-2007, 04:55 PM Loaded for me in 900ms, so I'm not sure why its so slow for everyone else. As far as Web 2.0 goes, other people are correct, but it's not worth arguing over. I think the term your looking for is "modern". I would also second the recommendation to move the ads. People's eyes should be immediately drawn to the content, where as here they are drawn to the ads. You should consider making the heading for your "About" section larger then the surrounding content headings. Also, putting a light border around the ads would be simple thing to do and help seperate ads from content. Think about who your target audience is, and what you want them to see first. The only other thing I can think of is to maybe cut that top margin in about half. Also, when viewed with images disabled, the site breaks pretty bad. It's a pretty good site, but in my opinion I'd say it needs just a little extra work to make it really stand out. Ill cut the margine down some. I think ill just remove the ads. TJ111 12-28-2007, 05:57 PM Just another thing I noticed, images should never be used for text. Especially header text. This will reduce your page rank. If you really want to use prettier text for headers, simply place the image over the header element. Baby Jai 12-28-2007, 06:58 PM place the image over the header element? You lost me there TJ111 12-28-2007, 07:07 PM Like <h3>about</h3> <img src="about.jpg"> And use some CSS to put the img over the h3 element. You should only use images for graphics, just like you should only use tables for tabular data. Baby Jai 12-28-2007, 07:45 PM so me having images inside of tables is a no no? Then you get into the heavy parts of it being to plain...No if the about.jpg says about and the h3 says about you will have 2 abouts going around, unless i hide the tag which would work bradmasterx 12-29-2007, 05:52 AM 3 seconds it taken for me to load, like the hit counter the loho i hate reflective logos not your problem but,, other than that i think it is o.k Baby Jai 01-05-2008, 10:28 PM ok i have majorly updated this and i need some input Baby Jai 01-06-2008, 01:55 AM i can use some suggestions to put more stuff on the front page webdeveloper.com
