Has anyone seen this yet? AWESOME! Scary too! I saw it on the second day of opening... totally enjoyed it.
I keep hearing all about this being Wil Smith's best movie, highest grossing movie for a December opener, etc etc... and not any media mention that it's a REMAKE of a 1971 film called "Omega Man", based on a 50's book bearing the same name as the 2007 remake "I Am Legend".
Anyway, -excellent movie. I will have to own a copy on DVD when it becomes available. :)

i haven't seen "i am legend" but i did see sweeney todd both the day it opened and the next: it was incredible*.
*i'm still partial to the 198(2?) version with angela lansbury, though.

My son saw it. He agrees with the reviews he's heard that the first two-thirds is very good but the last third was a let down. I will not see it.
I am very much looking forward to seeing Sweeney Todd, Atonement, There Will Be Blood. Atonement cinematography is gorgeous. There Will Be Blood I've heard is a masterpiece.

Since I already know the plot, (being old enough to have seen "Omega Man" when it was first showing in theaters ), I'm willing to wait until I can see it for free on TV or for cheap as a DVD rental.

They ran clips of "The Omega Man" (at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin TX) before the "Legend" show started and I really didn't make the connection until then. They also showed some kid's cheesy, home-made YouTube version, of Omega Man before the show too. I like this theater chain (they serve beer!).
BTW, I saw The Omega Man as a kid (on TV) and to this day cannot stand the sound of a phone ringing...

Thanks for letting us know it's a "remake" of Omega Man. I had no idea. I was going to see it, but like NogDog, I saw the original when it first came out and can wait for the DVD in rental.

it's actually based on a book, from the 50's or 60's i believe. but the movie diverges quite a bit from the book.

My wife and I sort of have a tradition of going to see a movie on our anniversary, which is on New Years Eve. It's not the only time we get out, but it is a rarity. The little town we live in only has a small theater, so no movie is ever here for more than a week or two at the most. I am Legend is one that we are considering, along with National Treasure II. Any other recommendations?
The tradition started with the first Lord of the Rings movie. They were kind enough to release one for us 3 years in a row. Luckily, my wife isn't the type to like a regular "date" movie.

I guess that I am difficult to please when it comes to my eclectic tastes in theater genre... I don't like the "LOTR" trilogys, -not at all. Hated the books from school (and it was Assignment).
And the "Pirates o. t. Caribbean" series (although I did watch the first one on tv a few nights ago and it is the better of them), -didn't like those, either.
I did rave over "Finding Nemo" and "Ratatouille" (both excellent movies). Luckily for us, there is a notch-in-the-wall theater here that runs the first showing for $6.00 or something like that so watching even a movie that I decide that I don't like, isn't a waste of money. Most theaters here want double+ that for their offerings.
I remember watching "Omega Man" back in the 70's, -it was very good, a bit quirky though and I was left wondering what was so 'scary' about Anthony Zerbe and 'The Family' other than their desire to 'kill the last user of the wheel' (the mutated people were Luddites, comitted to kill all users of anything-scientific, as that is what led to the downfall of humanity with the bio-weapons that China & USSR released upon the world).
"I Am Legend" lent some perspective to maybe why the 'mutated' were to be feared... I kind of didn't like it for their tremendous strength however, -their sheer numbers made them formiddible enough: 6.5 billion people infected (90% of world population) and they sought to eat the remaining 10% of the 'immune' ('still living') population (and apparently, were rather effective at it and circa 3rd year 'Legend', were running out of food and getting desperate...)

I have mixed feelings about the movie. I thought it was both sweet and disappointing. I still ask myself if it were good or not but I think it was overall worth watching. I suppose I wasn't expecting so much of a horror film.

The only other movie on my Gotta See list right now is 'The Bucket List.'
Around here we have only the most expensive* of theatres, Edwards, and the cheapest, which never have first-run movies and usually only have what's already out on DVD or has already been on the tube. 99% of our movies are DVD rentals.
When my wife, step-daughter and I go t oa movie at Edwards, we get the usual popcorn or candy and soft drink. The total comes to around $50 a trip. We can rent a lot of DVDs and buy a lot of microwave popcorn for $50. Plus, you have the added convenience of pause, reverse, play again ...

4 glasses of wine, chicken tacos and tip set me back $40 at the Alamo Drafthouse... of course you can't be too squeamish or mind if people make noise during the movie.

Reminds me of when the Rocky Horror came to my small town one weekend during my senior year at college. Some friends and I who made the 50 mile trip home just for the show were thrown out for being disruptive.

how can you be too disruptive at the rocky horror picture show? that's like being the hairiest monkey at the zoo!
I love to talk during movies, but thankfully I don't go to that many, mostly kid flicks, which are noisy anyway.
One of my favorite shows used to be "Mystery Science Theater 3000" -- My sister and I are a lot like those robots when we go to a movie. We were the only people who giggled during the sinking of "Titanic" and groaned at the stupid ending.

What was the fist season of MST3K hosts' name, -"Joel Hodgeson" or something like that? A good friend of mine in Denver went to high school with him, in Minnesota. -He said that Joel was like that 'in real life' too... :D
I loved that series... didn't have cable tv then, so had to watch videos that my cousin brought with him.
KDLA, -you (gasp!!) talk during the movie? Me, I am quiet. I mean, Buddist-monk quiet. Silencio. :D

I think so. I remember his name being Joel, but not the last name. Then, the guy changed, but I don't remember his name. (He was a much more lame version of Joel.) It's been a while since I've had access to that channel to watch it.

Yeah - a bad habit I got into due to my nieces and nephew always asking questions like "Auntie, why's he doing that?" Also, my sister is really into finding and announcing those goofy editing/continuity problems in movies. ;)

You must have me confused with Rizzo. He has pictures and everything!
Yes, I have been to that theater. Do they still do that? Seems like I heard years ago that they were stopping. When we got kicked out, it was in the thriving metropolis of Fredericktown, population 3660 back then. I went back for a visit recently and my friends were bragging about how much the town had grown. It was all the way up to 4005!

Thought so, but it was a crazy atmosphere for the movie.
I mentioned my wife and I might go to Legend on our anniversary. We ended up going to National Treasure II. Two days earlier, we saw something on tv about the Lincoln assasination that only barely showed anything about John Wilkes Boothe stopping to get his leg fixed. I told her how that was Dr Mudd and it started the saying "Your name is Mudd." She told me she thought I was making it up. When they mentioned it in the movie, she claimed I must have studied for it just to show her up.

Nah... there are waiters walking in and out taking peoples orders and such, but they have a system where you write down what you want on paper and hand it to a waiter. If they have any questions they'll very quietly whisper to you, but it's still a lot more distracting than a normal movie.

you guys have waiters in your theaters, and alcohol!!! that's incredible. i'm jealous. i'd have to travel at least 4 hours to find anything of the sort.
I saw I am Legend last night. I thought it was incredible (and it was at an IMAX theater, so even better). It's been a long time since I've jumped like that and been that freaked out during a movie. It was creepy, and kept your attention the entire time.
PS - I like to talk during movies too. but it's really quiet... i make sure not to annoy people around me.

Maybe among the people sitting in the theatre you were at but my son, who is a professional actor, disagrees and laughed when I mentioned it to him.
The person who will win "Best Actor" this year will be Daniel Day-Lewis for "There Will Be Blood".

I liked I Am Legend. I think Will Smith has definitely emerged as a fine actor to take seriously compared to his comedy (Fresh Prince of Bel Air) days; he has great versatility as an actor. I think he played the role well and I was able to feel sympathy for the character, and that doesn't happen much. I was disappointed with the ending, but that's because I'm used to happy endings. Never read the book and never seen Omega Man. I did see Omega Man compared to I Am Legend in a review and it mentioned the plots in both movies are different as they are focusing on different things (Omega Man - slaying the monsters, I Am Legend - trying to find a cure).
I do like movies that are based on books and will usually read the books after I see the movie, but I Am Legend doesn't seem like the type of book I'd like to read. I think Will Smith did very well in this movie.
I saw Atonment and didn't like it, though. Also, it got pretty confusing for me at the end. Nothing against the acting, though, it didn't come off as a love story, as it portrays itself to be, IMO.
Best Actor, I'm rooting for George Clooney, Michael Clayton - great movie and Clooney has also developed into a great actor. Ha, ha, I'm an Oscars buff, I haven't missed an Oscars in 8 years and I even used to request off work to stay home and watch it, hehehe, sad, but true.

Was based on a book and TWO remakes. Omega Man was the 2nd remake, and the first film was a Vincent Price film called 'The Last Man on Earth'.
He spent the movie going around during the day slaying vampires as they slept, and eventually runs into a group of fellow humans.
I'm sorry to say, Hitch,I Robot,The Pursuit of Happyness, were all better than Legend, IMO. The CG was completely unbelievable, the 'infected' were cartoony. There were a lot of 'hey look at the screaming zombie' shots. When they screamed their entire faces came disjointed. I think Smith's performance was excellent, as always, but overall it seemed to be lacking substance. Once again, physical effects would have served the story better.
And should I have been more upset that the dog died, than the hero?

I do agree with many of these points. But it's been a long time since I've jumped out of my seat like that. And i jumped at least 6 times. I enjoyed the movie.
Another movie that I loved, but probably could've been better is Vantage Point. It was like the first time I saw Bad Boys II: Very entertaining with a couple of [somewhat] original chase/action scenes. I'll buy the DVD though.

I have to say that I Am Legend was good, yet the book provided much more entertainment overall. They seem to have really butchered the plot in the form of a movie. Of course, the basic concept is the same, but just the way the book plays out, it would have made a great movie word for word.
Although, No Country for Old Men is a movie I recently saw and amazing none the less.

I just saw a preview of "Incredible Hulk 2". whoa... that looks amazing too..
I like the first Hulk movie alot... not enough to go see it twice but I'd own it on DVD maybe for a night of guilty fun and calorie-fest (pizza, beer, wings, etc) when nothing else is on..
I wonder if Ferrigno will do a cameo in this one too?
I remember seeing whats-his-name, -Kirk Alyn(??), the first 'movie Superman' (the one before George Reeve) in that first Christospher Reeves Superman movie. I'm pretty sute that he was un-credited in the role (as was Thurle Ravencroft (the voice of Kellogg's Corn Flakes cereal icon "Tony the Tiger") when he sang the Grinch's song in that animated Christmas cartoon... everyone assumed that it was Boris Karloff, -the actor whom voiced the Grinch. I'm 100% certain that Mr. Ravencroft was not credited either... it was a terrible oversite!)..
The venerable aged Kirk Alyn played Lois Lane's father in that first Superman movie w/ Chris Reeves... he and Lois' mom (the actress that played Lois Lane on the George Reeves Superman series) were traveling together on a train... while young Lois watched out the window as a youthful teenage Clark Kent was outrunning the train, leaving a cloud if dust behind...
I've only seen several short 'clips' of the Kirk Alyn 'Superman' movie... it was live-action but they would switch to 'cartoon animation' when Superman flew...
