Hello, I'm having a big problem. I'm trying to copy some folders to cd on the computer. First I'm erasing a cd r-w in F drive, the readable and writeable cd drive. Then I'm going to notepad and right clicking on the folder I want to copy to the cd in f drvie. Everything is fine until just a few folders are copied. Then I get a message that says it won't copy a folder because the cd is not in a writeable drive. But it is. I try restarting the computer, erasing cd and starting over again. Same problem. Cd is clean. Anyone know how to fix this? Thank you very much.

I don't really understand why you would be using Notepad to do this. Also, I am assuming that you are using Windows XP? IF you do..Have you tried using "burning" software instead of using the builtin windows function? (i.e nero, cdburnerxp). Only reason I ask is because...Ive had that same problem trying to use the XP feature and have to use nero sometimes.

"DeepBurner" is a good freeware disk-burning software. I don't use the XP-whatever disk-burner. Ever..

Thanks I'm using Vista. Does DeepBurner burn many folders within folders? Burners won't work. They say I have too many folders within folders. If I use Vista I don't have this problem. But have this other problem of it saying the cd is not in a writeable drive when it is. Please get back to me if you know what is causing this reading f drive error. Thank you very much.

The nested folder limits are due to limits of the file system your using on the cd.

If you use dedicated burning software not only will it provide more detailed information on any errors but will also give you more options so you can select the most appropriate settings.

All I do is find the folder I'm trying to copy to a CD, right-click it, click Copy, then explore the blank CD, and then right-clicking inside of the blank CD, and clicking Paste.

That puts in all sub-folders and files in the main folder you're trying to copy.

And... I don't know why you were using NotePad to do this, either. :p

"The nested folder limits are due to limits of the file system your using on the cd."

Thanks, how do I adjust the file limits for cd? Please let me know, thank you very much.

It sounds as if it's saying that the limits are caused by the file system the CD is using... meaning FAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc.

I don't know how to change the file system of a CD.

What you could do is just Google Search that error message (without the quotes). It's bound to be somewhere on the Internet.

The only other thing I can think of is that you're just trying to copy something too big in size for the CD. What exactly is it you're trying to copy?

Nothing really that gigantic. Only several folders within a folder but the burners won't burn more than only some folders in a folder.
