Display Line# and Column# of a file loaded in HTMl page

HTML page should display a file which we read from DB as database and then when the user moves the cursor over the text displayed on the screen. It should display Line# and Column# at the top of the screen.. Can anyone help me in this regard? Currently i am facing performance issue when the file size is large..
Please help me with your ideas
