Hey, I created a fansite and a forum for my favourite rapper, Chamillionaire. I have designed most of it now and I'm just looking for comments on it and some suggestions on how to improve it, so If you have any, please do post below and let me know. I have been working months and months on this and i do hope all the work has come off, i have tried to put as much info in as possible too
Chamillionaire Fansite ~ http://www.chamillionairechat.com
Chamillionaire Forum ~ http://www.chamillionaireforum.com
Thanks

it's a really nice site (both of them)
but i'm not sure how i feel about the background. everything looks really professional except for the diagonal line background. plus, it's really annoying when you scroll.
on the Contact page, the image verification doesn't work...
and your doctype is incomplete, it should be:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
then, you have to close this tag:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
you may want to validate (http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chamillionairechat.com%2F) your code, but you can ignore the errors that look like this:
general entity "t" not defined and no default entity.
…llionaireforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=103" title="Wont Let You Down Extended
these errors are due to the &... which you should probably write as & and your quotes (" ") like this:
title="Chamillionaire "Wont Let You Down">Chamillionaire "Wont Let You Down"!
should be written:
title="Chamillionaire Wont Let You Down">Chamillionaire "Wont Let You Down"!
that should help you out for now... the site looks good.
good job with it.

i don't really know - the stripes are just very distracting. you want users to focus on the content and this takes the attention away from it.
you have some pretty good graphic designers helping you out, why not see what they can come up with?

Ok, i'll ask them now
But like i say, i prefer some sort of pattern than a plain colour background

Using stripes is fine, what dtm32236 tried to say is that the stripes you have at the moment is distracting the user's eye away from the content because they are overpowering everything else with such strong colors.
Try some other more seamless stripes and you should be fine. This online stripe generator is pretty good: http://www.stripegenerator.com/ (hint. if you aren't able to build a nice stripe yourself just go to Your Stripes section and pick one of the crowd favorite)

that's pretty cool...
you can make the stripes thinner, or make the colors lighter.
most of the time, if i have a graphic or background that's distracting or too bold, i will take it into photoshop and make it transparent a certain percentage (try 30%, 50%, etc). this will lighten it up and make it less distracting.

Well i have got the verification image working now :D and got the validation errors down to "4", but i'm stuck on what these 4 mean, so if you know, please let me know :) - http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chamillionairechat.com%2F
Also i'm still wokring on this background :D

The good thing about W3C validator is that it is rather self-explanatory. In this case it is implying some tag(s) are not closed properly. From the looks of it seems like your footer div is missing the end tag. Try adding that and see what happens with the other errors.

Ok, but it is isn't it:
<div class="footer">Created by <a href="http://www.danielmousdell.com">Daniel Mousdell</a> | © ChamillionaireChat.com 2007 - 2008 | All Rights Reserved
</div>

<div class="footer">Created by <a href="http://www.danielmousdell.com">Daniel Mousdell</a> | © ChamillionaireChat.com 2007 - 2008 | All Rights Reserved
